Robotic Hip Replacement FAQs
Helpful starting points before your consultation. Advice and recovery plans are always tailored to the individual.
Does the robot perform the hip replacement?
No. The robotic system is a tool used by the surgeon to support planning and execution of selected parts of the procedure. Dr Fraser remains in control of the operation.
Is robotic-assisted hip replacement suitable for everyone?
Not necessarily. Suitability depends on your diagnosis, anatomy, imaging, general health and the planned procedure. Dr Fraser will discuss whether robotic assistance offers a relevant option for you
Does robotic assistance remove the usual surgical risks?
No. Robotic assistance does not make surgery risk-free. The benefits, limitations, alternatives and risks of the whole procedure still need to be discussed before you decide whether to proceed.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring your referral, Medicare details, relevant X-rays or scans, a current medication list and any useful reports from previous treatment or surgery. Contact the practice before your visit if you are unsure what is required.
